Whoopi Goldberg Thrown Out of Met Gala, Banned for Life: “Don’t Come Back Here”

NEW YORK CITY — In what may go down as one of the most chaotic fashion faux pas of the decade, Whoopi Goldberg was reportedly escorted out of the 2025 Met Gala after what sources described as a “catastrophic style rebellion,” followed by a heated exchange with Vogue staffers. The event’s organizers have since issued a lifetime ban.

Eyewitnesses say the longtime View co-host made a dramatic entrance at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, allegedly dressed in what one fashion blogger called “a defiant hybrid of haunted upholstery and futuristic nun.” The theme for this year’s event was “Neo-Victorian Dreamscapes,” but Goldberg reportedly declared to security, “I don’t follow themes. I am the theme.”

While most guests took that to mean a bold fashion statement was imminent, things went downhill almost immediately after Whoopi bypassed Anna Wintour’s traditional red carpet nod with what one staff member described as “a finger-gun salute and a loud ‘sup.’”

Multiple fashion commentators on TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) went viral mocking the outfit, which featured an emerald velvet cape, black orthopedic sneakers, and what appeared to be a vintage Ghost movie poster sewn into the back panel. “She looked like she got dressed in the dark… at a thrift store… on Halloween,” said one anonymous Met Gala volunteer who now claims she’s in therapy.

Fashion critic Lorenzo DelAmour wrote on Instagram: “I didn’t know whether to applaud or call an exorcist. Whoopi showed up looking like a refurbished couch from Beetlejuice’s living room.”

Sources say things escalated once Goldberg made her way to the gala’s exclusive Champagne Room, where she reportedly “grazed aggressively” on a $27,000 imported cheese wall that had been curated by a Michelin-starred chef flown in from the Swiss Alps.

“She took a whole wheel of brie,” said one horrified intern. “Not a slice. The whole wheel. Then she asked if they had crackers ‘that don’t taste like regret.’”

Security was reportedly called when Goldberg used a croissant as a microphone to give what she called “a five-minute sermon on the decline of real style in America.” The impromptu speech ended with her comparing Kim Kardashian’s dress to “a melted Barbie” and declaring that “this whole event peaked when Cher wore feathers.”

Anna Wintour, who sources say had been silently watching the chaos unfold from a glass balcony with the intensity of a Bond villain, eventually descended. According to a leaked text thread between two stylists, Wintour approached Whoopi, whispered “This is the Met, not a middle school play,” and motioned for security.

Goldberg was reportedly escorted out through a side door near the Egyptian exhibit while yelling, “I hosted the Oscars! Twice! You can’t ban me — I’m culture!” Before leaving, she allegedly grabbed a floral centerpiece “for the Uber ride.”

A representative for Vogue later confirmed: “Ms. Goldberg will not be invited back to future Met Galas. We wish her the best in her future… endeavors.”

Online reactions ranged from gleeful to supportive to utterly baffled.

“Whoopi getting kicked out of the Met Gala is the most relatable thing she’s done in years,” one user posted on X.

Another commenter wrote, “I don’t know what’s funnier — the outfit, the cheese incident, or the fact she tried to freestyle slam poetry on the staircase while yelling at Timothée Chalamet.”

Some fans, however, stood up for Goldberg. “She’s 68, stylish, and doesn’t care about your snooty rules. She’s earned the right to wear whatever haunted sofa she wants,” one supporter posted, garnering over 50,000 likes.

Later that evening, Goldberg addressed the incident from her couch (a real one this time) on a livestream for her fans, sipping wine from a Mason jar. “They say I was off-theme. Honey, I’ve been off-theme since 1982. That gala needed me. Without me, it’s just rich people standing still and calling it couture.”

She also teased launching her own event, The Real Gala, which she says will include “karaoke, wings, and zero judgment.” Her first invitees? “Anyone who’s ever worn sweatpants to brunch.”

While Goldberg’s ban may not affect her day job or her legacy, it does mark yet another cultural collision between elite fashion institutions and, well, Whoopi being Whoopi.

Whether she returns to crash the Met Gala 2026 disguised as a chandelier or launches her own rogue fashion night across the street from it remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: nobody will forget the night Whoopi Goldberg turned the Met Gala into a metaphysical mic drop.
