Travis Kelce compares himself to Roy Kent from Ted Lasso “I’m too stubborn, I’m just an old and angry veteran at this point
After 11 years as a Kansas City Chiefs player, Travis Kelce is at the end of his rope when it comes to NFL media production days.
Kelce and his Chiefs teammates recently had to carry out their preseason media obligations in Kansas City, which is standard procedure for all NFL stars in the leadup to a new campaign.
Every year players are called upon to pose for photos – both team and individual – while also recording video content ahead of the season, and Kelce has grown tired of that process.
So much so, in fact, that he now compares himself to Roy Kent – the fictional no-nonsense soccer captain from the hit TV series ‘Ted Lasso’.
While discussing his reluctance to fulfil media days, Kelce told his brother Jason on their New Heights podcast: ‘I’m too stubborn. I’m just an old, angry veteran at this point.
‘I am, what was his name? Roy Kent off of Ted Lasso. Don’t miss me with all the f****ng extra s**t.’
Kent, played by British actor Brett Goldstein, is the more serious elder statesmen of Ted Lasso’s fictional ‘AFC Richmond’ team – a role which is believed to be based on former hard-hitting Manchester United captain Roy Keane.
On media day with the Chiefs, Kelce also added: ‘You just realize how much of that st they’re not going to use and this is so f**ng silly.
‘I’ll do it for the in-house people because I know them on a level. But honestly, all the extra production stuff I’m just like “hahaha, no no no! I will see you guys later.”
‘And I got some side-eyes but it is what it is.’
Jason, who recently hung up his cleats after 13 years with the Philadelphia Eagles, clearly doesn’t miss that side of the sport after echoing his brother’s sentiment.
‘I just hate photos,’ he stressed. ‘I hate somebody telling me what to do. “Do you want to flex?” No I don’t want to flex. Just take the f****ng photo.
‘I’ll do what I’m willing to do, take the photo. Can you not just take photos while we’re standing around? I am out on posing for photos.’
At the end of their furious rant, Travis conceded: ‘I feel bad for the guys that have to do this, they’re coming into a f****ng hornets nest of angry vets who don’t want to do this s**t.’
