Mindy Kaling takes jab at Prince Harry by calling him her “friend’s husband” who “wrote a book”
Prince Harry has been a household name across the United States and Europe for years, four decades in the United Kingdom in fact, but one person who isn’t impressed by his royal status is actress and comedian Mindy Kaling, who poked fun at him by stating he’s little more than her “friend’s husband” who “wrote a book.”
Kaling starred as Kelly Kapoor in NBC’s The Office (US), based on the original series from the UK, for which she earned a Primetime Emmy Award as an Outstanding Writer in a Comedy Series, and she has not lost any of the comedic charm with her jibe at the Duke of Sussex.
It came after she uploaded a photo of herself and the 39-year-old, who was once third in-line to succeed Queen Elizabeth II to the throne, as she joked about his 2023 book titled, Spare, as the pair met at the BetterUp summit in California.
“Met my friend’s husband at a work event,” Kaling captioned the photo. “Seemed pretty cool. Said he wrote a book. Gonna go check it out!”
She also shared a series of photos from backstage at the seminar in San Francisco, including a look at her dressing room ahead of the discussion hosted by the technological organization. She wore a “I Love U” cardigan by Libertine with black jeans and red suede heels whilst the butt of her joke donned a gray blazer with white button-down shirt and dark jeans.
How long have Markle and Kaling been friends?
Kaling’s friendship with Meghan Markle dates back to at least 2022 when she appeared on the Dutchess of Sussex and ex-Suits star’s podcast with Spotify, which was titled Archetypes, discussing the social stigma associated with being unmarried into her 40s.
She might help Markle launch her next venture as she has signed with Lemonada Media in February after Spotify terminated their contract, with senior executives suggesting that she was not a fun person to work with.
